Nicole & Liam | an intimate wedding at Coco's on college street in Toronto to their apartment patio

The leaky faucet.

While scrolling through these photos, you probably passed by an image of a faucet. If you stopped long enough to notice, there is a drop of water coming from it.

Did you notice it?

Did it even pop out to you?

Did you see it and think about it?

It’s such a random image, you might be thinking , for me to have included in a wedding gallery. And why, you might be asking, would I include this little moment?

Well, let me tell you—if you noticed it and you stopped and wondered about it, then HELLO! I’m so glad you are here because YOU. ARE. MY. PEOPLE.

Ok but truly, why would a leaky faucet prompt me to make such a big statement?

It’s not necessarily about the faucet or the leak, or the fact that I spent 5 minutes trying to capture the perfect image of this little drippy situation. It’s so much more than metal and water droplets.

It’s about the story, about the details, about the little things.

And those are what weddings are for me.

While the essence of each wedding I’ve been a part of (almost every weekend for the past 12 years!) is the same—two people dressed in something other than their daily wardrobe choices, making a commitment with paper and pen and then celebrating with those who love them—the details of each wedding are so much more than that. And, to me, the details are what matter. They’re also how I find the couples who are aligned with my own vision on how to capture images and memories that will tell the story for their future generations to remember their love .

So, back to the faucet.

Nicole (aka Coco), my bride here in this gorgeous Toronto city wedding on College Street, noticed the image right away. Her email back to me after receiving her photos touched on this one image and her words were spot on with the way I felt about it.

She wrote, “I lost it at our dumb leaky faucet. I can imagine us in 40 years remembering our day, our little apartment on College Street, all the memories on the patio, and that leaky faucet dripping in the background. These kinds of details just kill me. Thank you so so much!! We really wanted to remember this slice of life and we’re going to cherish these memories always. Thank you for coming into our little world and capturing it so sweetly.”

And that’s what it’s about for me. It’s not perfect posing or working off a shot list from Google. It’s the real moments, the storytelling, and the places where all these memories happen. It’s so that when you look back years later, the images speak to you on a level that takes you back to every single smell, taste, sound, and moment. Then, like a rush, memory after memory will spark and like magic, it’s all right there warming your heart like it was just yesterday. These are our days, our lives, and the things we do life for.

That’s all from me today. Sending all my love, as always. And thanks for being here, time and time again.
