Jenn & Chad | an intimate rooftop elopement

2020 was the year when weddings completely shifted, but the one thing that it showed us all is that love is one of the strongest things and it will always remain.

In March 2020, weddings came to a halt. Everything was put on hold. It was heartbreaking.

The whole world seemed to be on lockdown. But also, we actually really were on lockdown. You weren’t allowed to see your loved ones in real life and all these rules were being placed. Grocery stores were being raided. Masks were coming into effect. The rules were constantly changing and life was suddenly different.

This wedding was the first wedding I did once things started to let up. And this was the first wedding that brought me out of my house and the first place I got in my car to travel to. I remember feeling totally out of my body, driving to another neighborhood and entering a building where I didn’t know if I would bump into others. This was a time when you couldn’t gather more than 5 people together and so that is all there was here on that day. Just the five of us and a pup, Blue.

Jenn & Chad were so excited to be married and I knew that from their engagement shoot the previous year. While they did postpone their big celebration at Langdon Hall, they still decided to keep their wedding date and be wed in the year they planned. And I’m so happy they did.

It was this gem in a pile of muck that gave me this hope that things would get better. It was so good to be among other humans and celebrate love. A sweet moment during the ceremony was when we could see people from another building watching as Jenn & Chad married. And their faces were just as happy as all of ours. Complete strangers that we will never know but what we will know is how much love connects us all and in this wild year, moments like this got us through.

I was so honored to have captured these two on their rooftop saying their I do’s while the wind danced fiercely around them and even took hold of Jenn’s veil at one point. I was so honored to be there so they had photos to share with family and friends. And, I’m so honored for their next celebration too.

Jenn & Chad, I adore you more than I can say. Thanks for including me in your top 5 on this special day on top of the world (or at least Toronto!).

All my love, xo.
